<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What are Amsterdam bitterballen?</h2>

<p style="font-size:16px">&#8220;Bitterballen&#8221; are typical <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/amsterdam-must-eat-snacks/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Dutch snacks</a>. Often eaten whilst having <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/amsterdam-beer-bars/">drinks with friends</a> in a pub at the end of a workday or during receptions. The standard Bitterbal consists of a tasty meat ragout made from either veal or beef at the centre which is then covered in breadcrumbs and then deep fried. There are some unique variations on this basic recipe. We&#8217;ve selected the 5 most special Amsterdam bitterballen options for you to try out during your stay in Holland&#8217;s capital.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">5 Best Places For Bitterballen</h1>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bitterballen at Kantjil &amp; De Tijger</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">The Indonesian restaurant Kantjil &amp; de Tijger has been on the Spui street for over 25 years. A lesser known fact: bitterballen are also on the menu there besides the traditional rice tables. To be a little more specific: rendang and ajam ritja balls. One is filled with spicy beef, the other has a ragout filling made from spicy chicken fillet. The balls can only be ordered during the lunch. They are included in the high tea, but you can also order them separately (€ 7.90 for five balls). </p>

<p><em>Address: Spuistraat 291-293</em></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bitterballen at Mediamatic</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">The king of vegetarian bitterballen, that&#8217;s what you may call chef Thor of Mediamatic. Of the seven vegetarian balls (seven balls for € 8.50) that he sells, five are vegan. They all have different colors and with different tastes. The white coco-Thai, red Chili mexx and yellowish Baltibal have been eaten at the restaurant for five years, where almost everything is produced sustainably and locally.</p>

<p><em>Address: Dijksgracht 6</em></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bitterballen at Café Luxembourg</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">In 2012, Café Luxembourg&#8217;s bitterbal was chosen as the tastiest in Amsterdam. A title that the café can still proudly use, as there have been no new elections since. You pay € 7.50 for six classic bitterballs. Not all credits go to the cafe. The veal bitterballs are made by the Amsterdam patisserie Holtkamp, the iconic pastry shop that has been on the Vijzelgracht since 1969.</p>

<p><em>Address: Spui 24</em></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Amsterdam Bitterballen at Café de Ceuvel</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">Balls made from coffee – well, something like that. Oyster mushrooms are grown on coffee-grounds, after which they are ground with spices and processed into a ragout. A layer of breadcrumbs around it and you have sustainable oyster mushroom balls (Five for € 5.95). For sale at the Ceuvel, the café where almost every dish and drink has a sustainable edge.</p>

<p><em>Address: Short Papaverweg 4</em></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Bar Bitterbal</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">The walhalla of Amsterdam bitterballen: more than 25 varieties can be tasted at Bar Bitterbal. Half are vegetarian, the other half with meat. Peking Duck Ball is the most popular. Anyone who’s afraid that Bar Bitterbal is full of tourists is worried about nothing: it’s mainly Amsterdam residents who come here to enjoy the regular beef and veal bitterballs (€ 5.50 for five) to the North Sea shrimp balls (€ 11.50 per five) ).</p>

<p><em>Address: Utrechtsestraat 18</em></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to make bitterballen?</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">Making bitterballen is a labor of love. First, you start with a roux, which is a mixture of flour and fat. Then, you add stock, typically beef or chicken, and let the mixture simmer until it thickens. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Once the roux has reached the desired consistency, you add your flavorings: salt, pepper, nutmeg, and sometimes vinegar. Next comes the tricky part: shaping the mixture into balls. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">This can be done by hand, but many people prefer to use a bitterballenmaker. Once the balls are formed, they&#8217;re fried in hot oil until they&#8217;re golden brown and crispy on the outside. Serve them with mustard for dipping and enjoy!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What meat is in bitterballen?</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">For the uninitiated, bitterballen are a Dutch snack made of deep-fried balls of meaty goodness. The key ingredient in bitterballen is, of course, meat. But what kind of meat? Well, that’s a bit of a mystery. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">The traditional recipe for bitterballen calls for “beef or veal knuckle,” but many modern chefs use a variety of meats, including chicken, pork, and even lamb. So, if you’re looking for a taste of bitterballen, you’ll just have to try a few and see for yourself!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">When to eat bitterballen?</h3>

<p>Bitterballen are mostly eaten between lunch and dinner. So from 12:00 to 18:00. This Dutch fried snack is most popular in combination with a drink. That is why it is often ordered in pubs and restaurants. Bitterballen goes well with beer, wine and other light alcoholic drinks.<br>Bitterballen are also frequently ordered during <a href="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/best-sex-dating-sites-in-amsterdam/">dates</a>.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">FEBO Amsterdam: What to Order, Best Locations &amp; Why It’s Famous</h2>

<p><strong>FEBO Amsterdam</strong> is one of the most iconic fast-food experiences in the Netherlands. Known for its famous <strong>automatiek</strong> snack wall, FEBO lets you grab hot Dutch snacks like croquettes, frikandellen, burgers, and fries straight from a vending-style window.</p>

<p><em>Last reviewed &amp; updated: 18 March 2026</em></p>

<p>If you are visiting Amsterdam for the first time and want to try a classic local snack, <strong>FEBO Amsterdam</strong> is one of the easiest and most memorable places to do it. This guide explains what FEBO is, what to order, where to find the best FEBO locations in Amsterdam, and why it has become such a Dutch food icon.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="1000" height="667" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/febo-amsterdam-kroket.jpg" alt="FEBO Amsterdam croquette in a snack wall" class="wp-image-3273" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/febo-amsterdam-kroket.jpg 1000w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/febo-amsterdam-kroket-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/febo-amsterdam-kroket-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/febo-amsterdam-kroket-200x133.jpg 200w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/febo-amsterdam-kroket-400x267.jpg 400w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>The famous FEBO Amsterdam croquette.</em></figcaption></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Is FEBO Amsterdam?</h2>

<p><strong>FEBO Amsterdam</strong> is a Dutch fast-food chain best known for its hot snack wall, where customers can buy freshly prepared snacks from little heated compartments. It is one of the most recognisable examples of everyday Dutch snack culture and a classic stop for locals after a night out, a quick lunch, or a late-night bite.</p>

<p>FEBO began as a bakery on <strong>Amstelveenseweg in 1941</strong> and later grew into the Amsterdam snack brand that many visitors know today. FEBO says its croquettes and burgers are still prepared daily according to the original family recipe, and its famous croquettes are made fresh every day rather than frozen.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Is FEBO So Famous in Amsterdam?</h2>

<p>FEBO is famous because it combines speed, convenience, and Dutch comfort food in a way that feels uniquely local. The automatiek wall is part of the attraction: instead of ordering everything from a counter, you can often see the snacks behind little glass doors, pay, and take one immediately.</p>

<p>For many travellers, <strong>FEBO Amsterdam</strong> is not just about the food. It is also about the experience of trying something distinctly Dutch that you will not find in quite the same way elsewhere.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What Should You Order at FEBO Amsterdam?</h2>

<p>If it is your first visit, start with the classics. FEBO’s best-known item is the <strong>kroket</strong>, a crispy breadcrumbed snack with a rich ragout filling. The chain also offers burgers, fries, frikandellen, cheese soufflés, and other popular Dutch fast-food items.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Beef croquette</strong> – the classic FEBO choice</li>

<li><strong>Fries</strong> – easy side order</li>

<li><strong>Frikandel</strong> – a very typical Dutch snack-bar item</li>

<li><strong>Cheese soufflé</strong> – a good vegetarian-friendly option if available</li>

<li><strong>Grillburger</strong> – one of FEBO’s best-known burger options</li>
</ul>

<p><strong>Best first order:</strong> one croquette, one fries, and a drink. That gives most visitors the full FEBO Amsterdam experience without overthinking it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Best FEBO Locations in Amsterdam</h2>

<p>FEBO has several branches across Amsterdam. Popular locations include <strong>Oudezijds Voorburgwal 33</strong>, <strong>Nieuwendijk 220</strong>, <strong>Leidsestraat 94H</strong>, and <strong>Ferdinand Bolstraat 89</strong>.</p>

<p>For most visitors, these are the most convenient FEBO locations:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>FEBO Oudezijds Voorburgwal 33</strong> – best if you are exploring the <a href="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/red-light-district-amsterdam/">Red Light District in Amsterdam</a></li>

<li><strong>FEBO Nieuwendijk 220</strong> – convenient from Central Station and Damrak area</li>

<li><strong>FEBO Leidsestraat 94H</strong> – useful if you are near Leidseplein and the canal belt</li>

<li><strong>FEBO Ferdinand Bolstraat 89</strong> – a good option in De Pijp</li>
</ul>

<p>If you only visit one branch, the <strong>Oudezijds Voorburgwal</strong> or <strong>Nieuwendijk</strong> locations are usually the easiest for tourists staying in central Amsterdam.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">FEBO Amsterdam and Dutch Snack Culture</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="1000" height="720" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/dutch-snacks-to-try.jpg" alt="Dutch snacks to try in Amsterdam including FEBO-style snacks" class="wp-image-3277" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/dutch-snacks-to-try.jpg 1000w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/dutch-snacks-to-try-300x216.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/dutch-snacks-to-try-768x553.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>FEBO is one of the best places to try classic Dutch fast food.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>To understand <strong>FEBO Amsterdam</strong>, it helps to understand Dutch snack culture. Quick fried snacks like croquettes, frikandellen, bitterballen, and fries are a familiar part of everyday life in the Netherlands. FEBO stands out because it made that culture highly visible and convenient through its snack wall format.</p>

<p>That is why FEBO is not just another fast-food stop. It is part of the way many visitors remember eating in Amsterdam.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Is FEBO Amsterdam Worth Trying?</h2>

<p>Yes — especially if you want to try something casual, local, and very Amsterdam. FEBO is not fine dining, but that is exactly the point. It is quick, inexpensive, easy to find, and culturally distinctive.</p>

<p><strong>FEBO Amsterdam</strong> is best for:</p>

<li>first-time visitors who want to try a Dutch snack</li>

<li>travellers looking for a quick cheap meal in the city centre</li>

<p>In the Netherlands we love our cheeses. We successfully compete, in cheesy exports, with economies like Germany and the United States. Tourists can improve their knowledge of Dutch geography simply by tasting and learning about our cheeses. </p>

<p>World renowned brands like Gouda, Edam, Leiden and Maasdam are all named after towns and cities in the Netherlands. If you get the chance order a &#8220;cheese plank&#8221; in a restaurant which gives you some great tasters or visit one of the many cheese stores in Amsterdam.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Stroopwafels</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-stroopwafels-1.jpg" alt="Amsterdam Must Eat Snacks Stroopwafels" class="wp-image-1081" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-stroopwafels-1.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-stroopwafels-1-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-stroopwafels-1-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>&#8220;Stroopwafels&#8221; are typical Dutch and the most favorite snack of tourists.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>The internationally most well known Dutch cookies! Loved by everybody who gives them a trie. Stroopwafels are made up out of&nbsp;two thin waffles that are glued together by a thin layer of sweet syrup.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Our tip: heat them up over your cup of coffee. The coffee flavour gets into the waffles and the syrup gets heated and melts just a little.&nbsp;Perfection!</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>&nbsp;Kroketten (From The FEBO) Or Bitterballs</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-kroket-1.jpg" alt="Dutch kroket Amsterdam FEBO" class="wp-image-1077" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-kroket-1.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-kroket-1-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-kroket-1-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Crispy banquet of creamy ragout, made from fresh broth &amp; Dutch beef.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>Looking for a fast and tasty bite to eat? Then you’ll love these! You can pull these hot snacks strait out of a vending machine wall at all <a aria-label="FEBO snackbars (opens in a new tab)" rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.febo.nl" target="_blank">FEBO snackbars</a>.&nbsp;The ‘kroket’ (crocket) consists of meat ragout on the inside which is covered in breadcrumbs. This mixture is then deep-fried and served without any sauce. </p>

<p>The original Dutch crocket ragout is made from beef or veal. These days you can also choose between many different options like Shrimp, chicken satay or a vegetarian crocket. Bitterballs are basicly just small crockets served in ball shapes. These are usually eaten whilst having drinks or during celebration parties.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Stamppot And Hutspot</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-Stamppot.jpg" alt="stamppot amsterdam dutch food" class="wp-image-1071" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-Stamppot.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-Stamppot-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-Stamppot-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></figure>

<p>This is Dutch stew. One of the few dishes in the Netherlands that is actually 100% Dutch. It originated from the Dutch city Leiden. It’s typically eaten during the cold winters over here. Sometimes it&#8217;s even served during <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/christmas-markets-2022-netherlands-germany-belgium/">Christmas</a>. The dish is made from potatoes that are mashed together with other vegetables.&nbsp;Combinations include sauerkraut, carrot, kale or onion. </p>

<p>The dish is usually served with a large sausage and gravy. Hutspot is kind of like Stamppot; potatoes, carrots and unions are cooked together until they are done. Then they are mashed and also served with sausage and gravy.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Poffertjes (Mini Pancakes)</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-poffertjes-1.jpg" alt="Poffertjes Amsterdam Best Dutch Snacks" class="wp-image-1082" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-poffertjes-1.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-poffertjes-1-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-poffertjes-1-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Everybody loves poffertjes! Especially with powdered sugar.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>You can get these little fluffy pancakes at most pancake houses or street bakeries. They taste best right from the press. Add some molten butter and powdered sugar for a sweet taste explosion. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Original Dutch Fries With Mayo</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/amsterdam-fries.jpg" alt="Dutch fries with mayo" class="wp-image-1581" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/amsterdam-fries.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/amsterdam-fries-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/amsterdam-fries-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Dutch fries from the BurgerFabriek in Amsterdam.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>The Dutch are know for putting a boatload of mayonnaise over their thick fries. The traditional way to eat these delicious fries is from a piping hot paper cone. These fries much thicker than the French once and are then slathered with a rich tasty topping.&nbsp;Options include mayonnaise, ketchup, curry ketchup, sate sauce and finely chopped onions. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Patatje Oorlog</strong></h4>

<p><strong>Fun fact:</strong> Did you know that the Dutch use the term &#8216;patatje oorlog&#8217; when they want to order fries with mayonnaise, satay sauce and onions? &#8216;Patatje oorlog&#8217; means: <strong>war fries</strong>. It has been used since the 1970&#8217;s. In the early 1990&#8217;s, during the Balkan war, this term (patatje oorlog) was discredited. Some snack bars changed the name to peace fries (or &#8216;patatje vrede&#8217; in Dutch); a term that never caught on.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dutch Kibbeling With Ravigotte Sauce</strong></h3>

<p>You didn&#8217;t like that salty raw herring? Give kibbeling a try! It&#8217;s also made from fish. It consists of a fish mix of white fish (usually cod) that is battered and then deep fried. The dish is served with a delicious cold <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="ravigotte sauce (opens in a new tab)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sauce_ravigote" target="_blank">ravigotte sauce</a> for your dipping pleasure. This snack is the most tastiest when served hot. The best place to get it is at one of the many outdoor fish stands and trucks in Amsterdam.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Amsterdam Must Eat Snacks: Oliebollen</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="667" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Dutch-Oliebol-Amsterdam-Snacks.jpg" alt="Oliebol" class="wp-image-4738" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Dutch-Oliebol-Amsterdam-Snacks.jpg 1000w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Dutch-Oliebol-Amsterdam-Snacks-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Dutch-Oliebol-Amsterdam-Snacks-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Dutch-Oliebol-Amsterdam-Snacks-200x133.jpg 200w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Dutch-Oliebol-Amsterdam-Snacks-400x267.jpg 400w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Dutch oliebollen are usually served around New Year&#8217;s Eve.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>Dutch donuts, but with a twist. &#8220;Only eaten around New Year&#8217;s Eve&#8221; by most Dutchies. Well, not just New Year&#8217;s Eve! In Amsterdam you&#8217;ll come across many &#8216;oliebollen&#8217; (oil balls) stalls during the rest of the year. Sometimes these oliebollen are also for sale on <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/christmas-markets-2022-netherlands-germany-belgium/">Christmas markets</a> in Amsterdam.</p>

<p> Foreigners are particularly impressed by the fact that an oliebol contains fewer calories than the name suggests (80-90 calories per oliebol). Oliebollen are a bit like donuts, which are oh so popular in America. That is why Americans in particular can appreciate this one on our Amsterdam must eat snacks list.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Ontbijtkoek</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-ontbijtkoek.jpg" alt="Amsterdam Must Eat Snacks Ontbijtkoek" class="wp-image-1010" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-ontbijtkoek.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-ontbijtkoek-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-ontbijtkoek-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>&#8220;Ontbijtkoeken&#8221; are great for breakfast with some coffee or tea.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>Ontbijtkoek (gingerbread) literally translates into “<strong>breakfast cake</strong>” and the Dutch eat more than 100 million slices of ontbijtkoek every year. More than three-quarters of the Dutch eat Ontbijtkoek for breakfast or as a snack. This ginger tasting cake can only be bought in loaves, and is a lovely hearty snack for in-between. Put on some thick full cream butter on it for that extra taste sensation.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Raw Dutch Herring </strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-Must-Eat-Snacks-herring.jpg" alt="Amsterdam Must Eat Snacks Herring" class="wp-image-1036" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-Must-Eat-Snacks-herring.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-Must-Eat-Snacks-herring-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-Must-Eat-Snacks-herring-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Fish lovers should definitely try a herring in Amsterdam.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>Haring is the Dutch word for herring. It&#8217;s a national institution, eaten lightly salted or sometimes with pickles. It&#8217;s probably the ultimate Amsterdam must eat snack. Without herring the city wouldn&#8217;t be what it is today. More about that during our tours! Everyone who visits this great city should give it a try. This quick snack can easily be purchased all across the city. We prefer eating it with a sandwich, some unions and pickles. Other people just eat the fish covered in finely chopped unions. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dutch Drop (licorice)</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-licorice.jpg" alt="Food Dutch Drop Licorice" class="wp-image-1012" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-licorice.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-licorice-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-must-eat-snacks-licorice-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>&#8220;Drop&#8221; isn&#8217;t the most popular Dutch snack, but also worth a try.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>Hard, soft, sweet or salty: we love our liquorice. &#8220;Drop” can be found in every supermarket in the Netherlands.&nbsp; The Dutch boast the highest per capita consumption of licorice in the world. Did you know that the average Dutch person consumes more than 4 pounds (2000 grams) per year? This is one snack that you can’t miss out on when visiting Amsterdam.&nbsp;</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Tompouce</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-Must-Eat-Snacks-Tompouce.jpg" alt="Tompouce Amsterdam Must Eat Snacks" class="wp-image-1040" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-Must-Eat-Snacks-Tompouce.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-Must-Eat-Snacks-Tompouce-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/05/Amsterdam-Must-Eat-Snacks-Tompouce-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>A Dutch store called HEMA offers delicious tompouces.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p>Our personal favourite from our Amsterdam must eat snacks list. Reportedly, this pastry was first made in the Netherlands by a pastry chef from Amsterdam. A tompoece consists of a layer of puff pastry with a thick layer of vanilla pastry cream over it. On top of that is another layer of puff pastry covered with a layer, usually pink, frosting. </p>

<p>During King&#8217;s Day and European and World Cup Football tournaments the glaze is often made orange. Tompouces are strictly regulated to ensure consistency in size, shape and colour. A national favorite during special occasions! You can get them at the <a aria-label="HEMA (opens in a new tab)" rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.hema.nl/eten-drinken/gebak/tompouce/tompouce-6311010.html" target="_blank">HEMA</a> for 0,80 euro cents.</p>

<p>So, now you have seen all Amsterdam must eat snacks. Which one is your favourite? </p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">The Definitive Guide To Dutch Food in Amsterdam</h1>

<p>In the Netherlands there are quite a few typical local snacks that are definitely worth tasting. And despite the fact that the Netherlands is a small country, with only 12 provinces and 17.4 million inhabitants, the favourite snacks vary greatly by region in the Netherlands. For example, the province of Noord-Brabant has delicious local snack scalled the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Bossche Bol (opens in a new tab)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bossche_bol" target="_blank">Bossche Bol</a>. In Limburg they have fantastic pies (&#8216;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="vlaaien (opens in a new tab)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vlaai" target="_blank">vlaaien</a>&#8216;) and in Zeeland you can eat amazingly &#8216;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="bolussen (opens in a new tab)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zeeuwse_bolus" target="_blank">bolussen</a>&#8216; or &#8216;<a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Zeeuwse Babbelaars (opens in a new tab)" href="https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boterbabbelaar" target="_blank">Zeeuwse Babbelaars</a>&#8216;.</p>

<p>The Dutch capital has other local snacks. When in Amsterdam, these are the five Dutch snacks to try:</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1 | Ox Sausage</strong></h3>

<p>Are you curious about the local Dutch cuisine? Let&#8217;s start this culinary journey in Amsterdam with beef sausage. In Dutch this is called &#8216;ossenworst&#8217;. This is one of those Dutch snacks that don&#8217;t look that spectacular but it&#8217;s really tasty!</p>

<p>In Amsterdam there is one ox sausauge specialist with more than 100 year of experience. <a href="https://louman-jordaan.nl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Butcher Louman in Amsterdam (opens in a new tab)">Butcher Louman in Amsterdam</a> has been making sausages since 1890, so they know what they&#8217;re doing. Originally Amsterdam&#8217;s ox sausage was smoked for taste and shelf life. That entry variant of the sausage is also sold at Louman.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2 | Acid Bomb</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="846" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Dutch-Snacks-Augurken-Kesbeke.jpg" alt="Dutch snacks Amsterdam Kesbeke" class="wp-image-2807" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Dutch-Snacks-Augurken-Kesbeke.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Dutch-Snacks-Augurken-Kesbeke-300x267.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/02/Dutch-Snacks-Augurken-Kesbeke-768x684.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></figure>

<p>Ox sausage naturally includes Amsterdam pickles, from <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Kesbeke (opens in a new tab)" href="https://www.kesbeke.nl" target="_blank">Kesbeke</a> for example. A pickle can also be called &#8216;zure bom&#8217; in Dutch, which means acid bomb. Kesbeke makes these Dutch snacks in pots with a yellow label can now be found in almost every Dutch supermarket, but this big organisation started small. In 1948 founder Charles Kesbeke started in a basement on Amsterdam&#8217;s <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Waterlooplein" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Waterlooplein (opens in a new tab)">Waterlooplein</a>. The factory is now close to Westerpark, with an &#8220;acid and canning shop&#8221; across the street. There you can find the whole assortiment of Kesbeke, but they can also tell you everything about how you pick vegetables yourself if you wish. This is definitely one of those Dutch snacks that you should try.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3 | Amsterdam cookie</strong></h3>

<p>Do you prefer to start the Dutch taste safari a bit more calmly than with raw meat and a spicy pickle? Try an Amsterdam cookie. The Eberhardje, made by patisserie Holtkamp, is an ode to the mayor <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eberhard_van_der_Laan" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Eberhard van der Laan (opens in a new tab)">Eberhard van der Laan</a>, in the shape of a butter cookie. In the middle of the cookie there are three Andreas crosses of the city. You buy them at Holtkamp itself, but they are also served in the café of the Rijksmuseum. This way you combine a sweet Dutch snack with a cultural outing and some Amsterdam history: the ideal tourist trip.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4 | Bitterballen</strong></h3>

<p>The Dutch have a name for a time frame in which drinks are accompanied by Dutch snacks. This is called &#8216;borrel-tijd&#8217;. The timeframe is usually somewhere after lunch and before diner. During &#8216;borrel-tijd&#8217; Dutch bitterballen cannot be missed. Bitterballen are a delicious snacks based on meat, made by making a very thick stew thickened with roux and beef stock and generously loaded with meat, refrigerating the stew until it firms, and then rolling the thick mixture into balls which then get breaded and fried. </p>

<p>Both Van Dobben and Kwekkeboom are a mainstay of Amsterdam&#8217;s bitter garnish. Those looking for newer, experimental tastes have to go to the <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="Foodhallen (opens in a new tab)" href="https://foodhallen.nl/amsterdam" target="_blank">Foodhallen</a> in Amsterdam. The Ballenbar&#8217;s bitterballen are fried there. Yes, there are bitterballen of veal, but Michelin chef Peter Gast also developed bitterballen with shrimp, bouillabaisse and truffle. Yummy! </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5 | Pikketanussie</strong></h3>

<p>A what?</p>

<p>&#8216;Pikketanussie&#8217; is old Amsterdam&#8217;s dialect for a drink (like for example grain gin &#8211; or <a rel="noreferrer noopener" aria-label="jenever (opens in a new tab)" href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jenever" target="_blank">jenever</a> in Dutch). Most locals don&#8217;t even know this word. In Amsterdam pubs it used to be normal to ask for a &#8216;pikketanussie&#8217;. If the drink was well poured, the gin was given a convex head on the shot glass (a meniscus). This was then called an &#8220;over the IJ viewer&#8221;, referring to Amsterdam&#8217;s IJ-river.</p>

<p>According to language historian Ewoud Sanders, the word pikketanussie was first mentioned in the year 1897, specifically in the booklet Military and other sketches by M.A.C. Nierstrasz. The word is probably derived from pékèt anisé. Peket is the Walloon (Belgium) word for Gin, and it could be flavored with spices, including anise. The word may have become popular, because when it is corrupted it contains the Dutch words of cock and anus. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Best Jenever in Amsterdam</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="818" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Dutch-Snacks-Online-Jenever.jpg" alt="Dutch snacks Snacks To Try Jenever" class="wp-image-2968" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Dutch-Snacks-Online-Jenever.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Dutch-Snacks-Online-Jenever-300x258.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Dutch-Snacks-Online-Jenever-768x661.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></figure>

<p>There are many good places in Amsterdam where you can get delicious jenever (Dutch gin). But one of the best gin bars in Amsterdam is undoubtedly Wijnand Fockink. The beautiful, old bar is hidden in a little alley behind Dam Square. Officially it&#8217;s located in the <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/red-light-district-amsterdam/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Red Light District</a> (a.k.a. De Wallen). </p>

<p>Also at this bar the staff will pour the gin glass so full that the jenever will bulge and it will be almost impossible to lift the glass without spilling. The employees pour the glass on purpose so full that you have to bow (and show respect) for this delicious local drink. This jenever bar dates back to 1679 and also offers great Dutch snacks to try (with your jenever, wine or beer).</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Dutch beer</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="751" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Dutch-Beer-Brands.jpg" alt="4 amsterdam beer brand" class="wp-image-2965" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Dutch-Beer-Brands.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Dutch-Beer-Brands-300x237.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/03/Dutch-Beer-Brands-768x607.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></figure>

<p>Or, instead of Dutch gin (jenever) you can also combine Dutch snacks with Amsterdam beer from, for example, Brouwerij ’t IJ. One of the few windmills in Holland&#8217;s capital can be found just next to the local beer brewery, which is quite popular among Amsterdammers. </p>

<p>Another option is to taste liqueurs in De Drie Fleschjes, behind the Nieuwe Kerk (New Church). Since 1650, alcohol has been tapped there from a real liquor organ (fifty barrels). Beware if you usually look deeply into glass of corsed wine: the tasting room does not have a fixed closing time at the weekend, so you will soon roam outside with your foreign friends and you will be the drinking organ yourself. Another great thing is that this place has no fixed closing time in the weekend&#8217;s. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Hungry for delicious Spanish food? This list contains five restaurants and bars that serve the best paella in Amsterdam.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is Paella exactly?</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="606" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Spanish-Paella-1024x606.jpg" alt="paella in pan" class="wp-image-11300" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Spanish-Paella-1024x606.jpg 1024w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Spanish-Paella-300x178.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Spanish-Paella-768x454.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Spanish-Paella.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p style="font-size:16px">Paella is a rice dish that originated in Spain. It is typically made with chicken, seafood, and vegetables. Paella is usually cooked in a large skillet or Paella pan over an open fire. Paella is a very popular dish in Spain and is often served at family gatherings and celebrations.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">It&#8217;s typically made with white rice, but brown rice can also be used. Paella is often flavored with saffron, which gives the dish its distinctive yellow color. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">This Spanish dish can be made with either chicken or seafood, but it can also be made with only vegetables. Quite often it&#8217;s served with a side of bread and a salad. </p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Top 5 Paella In Amsterdam</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="643" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Plate-Dish-1024x643.jpg" alt="paella with wine" class="wp-image-11294" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Plate-Dish-1024x643.jpg 1024w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Plate-Dish-300x189.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Plate-Dish-768x483.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Plate-Dish.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1 | Café Duende</strong></h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">Café Duende Dos is a household name among those Amsterdammers who&#8217;re in love with Spain. In the restaurant with a blue-tiled bar and pictures of bulls, you immediately imagine yourself being in Spain. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">You can go there for paella (€ 19.50 p.p., from two people) or tapas. On Sunday the paella is made in a pan of a meter diameter, enough for the whole neighborhood. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">The chefs at Duende Dos are experienced Spanish chefs. For years they worked at restaurant Centra in <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/red-light-district-amsterdam/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Amsterdam Red Light District</a>, the first actual Spanish restaurant in the Netherlands.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Restaurant location: <strong><a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Duende+Dos/@52.3808003,4.878706,17z/data=!4m12!1m6!3m5!1s0x47c609d1ac745e0f:0xfb021b9078f0d053!2sDuende+Dos!8m2!3d52.380797!4d4.8809!3m4!1s0x47c609d1ac745e0f:0xfb021b9078f0d053!8m2!3d52.380797!4d4.8809" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Nieuwe Willemsstraat 3</a></strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2 |</strong> Restaurant <strong>Barça</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="594" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Served-1024x594.jpg" alt="dish" class="wp-image-11303" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Served-1024x594.jpg 1024w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Served-300x174.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Served-768x445.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Paella-Served.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p style="font-size:16px">Barça on the Marie Heinekenplein (yes, a square named after the <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/heineken-revenue-stats/">Dutch beer brand</a>) specialises in Catalan tapas that serves, for example, a calamari twist with Korean kimchi mayo (€ 9). </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">However, a classic Valencian paella is also featured on the menu. The paella (€ 24 for one person) is traditionally filled with seafood, chicken and chorizo. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">For those who want, it can also be prepared as a vegetarian dish. The paella combines well with one of the seven types of cava that Barça serves.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Restaurant location: <strong><a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Barça+-+bar+y+restaurante/@52.3570367,4.8895931,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47c609ed46fdfac5:0xe8a381c85fb78fcd!8m2!3d52.3570334!4d4.8917871" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Marie Heinekenplein 30-31</a></strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3 | Restaurant Vamos A Ver</strong></h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">At this place you can try four types of paella. They serve among others the paella especial (€ 38.50 for two people), with different types of fish and meat. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Vamos a Ver has been around for 21 years and is run by a couple: she&#8217;s Dutch, he&#8217;s a Spanish chef. For those who do not feel like paella, the special dish goat meat from the oven (€ 21.50) is a must.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Restaurant location: <strong><a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Vamos+a+Ver/@52.3563833,4.8965844,17z/data=!4m13!1m7!3m6!1s0x47c60992044e533b:0x20bd7cf2ed8ae8ee!2sGovert+Flinckstraat+308,+1073+CJ+Amsterdam!3b1!8m2!3d52.35638!4d4.8987784!3m4!1s0x47c60992052e104d:0xa937799332a014f4!8m2!3d52.3563589!4d4.8987822" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Govert Flinckstraat 308</a></strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4 | Restaurant Bocador</strong></h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">Restaurant Bocador is located at the Sloterplas. Visitors with a little bit of imagination shouldn&#8217;t have a difficult time to pretend to have dinner on a beautiful day on the Costa del Sol. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Bocador offers two types of paella: the classic Valencian (€ 17.95) and the Paella mixta de Bocador (€ 17.50). All dishes are prepared in their charcoal oven, including the paellas. Spanish barbecue dishes, such as the lamb chops, are also prepared in this oven.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Restaurant location: <strong><a rel="noreferrer noopener" href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Bocador/@52.3577248,4.8071221,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47c5e3d257397731:0x940fb2c3ba654475!8m2!3d52.3577215!4d4.8093161" target="_blank">Meer en Vaart 195</a></strong></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>5 | Paella Restaurant Xampanyeria Centra </strong></h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">Centra was the first Spanish restaurant in Amsterdam around seventy years ago, and also the first Spanish restaurant in the Netherlands. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">They went bankrupt in 2016, but with a restart fourteen months later and a major facelift, the doors were reopened. The paella (€ 18.50 p.p.) is only available from four persons and must be ordered the day before. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">For those who go to Xampanyeria Centra with little to no money they still still get a taste of paella with their paella bitter-balls (€ 1.70 each).</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Restaurant location: <strong><a href="https://www.google.com/maps/place/Centra/@52.3749246,4.8968767,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m5!3m4!1s0x47c609b853985719:0x2f6b4acc1473aa33!8m2!3d52.3749213!4d4.8990707" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Lange Niezel 29</a></strong></p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">What&#8217;s Paella made of?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">Traditionally, Paella is made with white rice, green beans, chicken, chorizo, and saffron. However, there are many different ingredients that can be used to create this dish. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">For example, seafood Paella often includes shrimp, lobster, or squid. Sometimes, the rice is replaced with pasta. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">And while green beans are the most common vegetable used in Paella, others such as peas or artichokes can also be used. The important thing is to use ingredients that you enjoy and that will create a delicious and satisfying meal.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Which wine is best with paella?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">Wine is a great choice for everyday meals, including Paella. The wine you choose should be based on the ingredients in the Paella. </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>If the Paella has seafood, then you should choose a white wine. </li>

<li>If the Paella has chicken or beef, then you should choose a red wine. </li>

<li>And if the Paella has both seafood and meat, then you should choose a rose wine. </li>
</ul>

<p style="font-size:16px">Some good wines to pair with Paella include Sauvignon Blanc, Chianti, and Grenache Blanc. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">How do you say food in Spanish?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">Food in Spanish is comida. If you&#8217;re talking about a specific type of food, like breakfast food, you would say desayuno. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">You can also say food when referring to a meal, such as almuerzo for lunch or cena for dinner. And if you&#8217;re talking about food that you eat on a regular basis, like snacks or desserts, you would say comestibles. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">So as you can see, there are many different ways to say food in Spanish, depending on the context.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">How to order Spanish food via delivery in Amsterdam?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">While there are many different delivery services to choose from, we recommend using Deliveroo or <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/just-eat-takeaway-users/">Just Eat Takeaway</a>. With Deliveroo, you can order food from a variety of Spanish restaurants and have it delivered right to your door. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Plus, delivery is quick and easy – simply create an account on the Deliveroo website or app, select your location, and browse the restaurant menus. Once you&#8217;ve found something you&#8217;d like to order, just add it to your cart and checkout. Your food will be on its way in no time!</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Can you eat Paella when pregnant?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">While it can be a delicious and healthy meal for pregnant women, there are a few things to keep in mind. First, pregnant women should avoid eating undercooked or raw fish and shellfish due to the risk of food poisoning. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Second, it is important to choose paella that is made with low-mercury fish, such as tilapia or salmon, to limit exposure to potentially harmful toxins. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Finally, pregnant women should also be sure to stay hydrated since dehydration can lead to premature labor. With these considerations in mind, pregnant women can enjoy paella as part of a healthy and balanced diet.</p>

<p>But even a lot of Amsterdammers still don&#8217;t know about the fact that these famous croquettes have a real Amsterdam dining salon as their origin. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Since 1945, this sandwich shop has laid hidden in the Korte Reguliersdwarsstraat and a lot of burning hot croquettes have been pushed over the counter accompanied with a lot of jokes. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">The funny and edgy service there, dressed in white coats, also spreads soft rolls with a centimetre thick layer of filet americain. Know what you&#8217;re getting yourself into!</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Dutch youth sentiment reigns supreme at Broodje Daan: in the cozy old-fashioned lunchroom with a trucker café atmosphere, you can order chocolate sprinkles, jam or &#8211; yes &#8211; typical Dutch speculoos sandwiches (€ 0.90). </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">The menu features all sorts of culinary experiments that bear the names of (former) employees. There&#8217;s even a sandwich named after the domestic dog Buddy, with hot sausage, fried bacon, cheese, fried onions and &#8220;buddy sauce&#8221;. This place definitely has one of the best sandwiches in Amsterdam. And, it&#8217;s very affordable too.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">The catering gems of the Westerstraat have been at De Hoeken for many years. Think of the the pub called de Blaffende Vis, Winkel and Café Nol. Comestibles Kinders belongs on that illustrious list. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">This is one of those lunch shops, with a yellowed Privé in the windowsill, mountains of cold cuts in the display case and half liters of milk for washing the food away. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">The local favourite here is &#8220;Broodje bolgeri&#8221;, a ciabatta with lettuce, chicken fillet, bacon, pesto and herb mayo. It is reportedly even the guilty pleasure of the officers of the Marnixstraat police station.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">The family butcher shop is built on informal Amsterdam conviviality, but after four generations of Vet, it also goes with the times: if you want, you can also order the Broodje Zeedijk (chicken, bacon, lettuce and sea dike sauce) in Pokébowl form. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">This is really a place where a lot of locals come. Local residents come around at lunchtime to get the best sandwiches in Amsterdam here. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Dutch ox sausage is very popular here. So, are you not vegetarian and looking for a real traditional place for local delicacies? Then visit this cute little shop in <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/red-light-district-amsterdam/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Amsterdam Red Light District</a>.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Save this list (in your browser) because this is definitely where you can get one of the best sandwiches in Amsterdam.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Who invented the sandwich?</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="627" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Double-Sandwich-On-Wooden-Plate-1024x627.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-12012" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Double-Sandwich-On-Wooden-Plate-1024x627.jpg 1024w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Double-Sandwich-On-Wooden-Plate-300x184.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Double-Sandwich-On-Wooden-Plate-768x470.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Double-Sandwich-On-Wooden-Plate.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p style="font-size:16px">The sandwich was first created by John Montagu, the 4th Earl of Sandwich. According to legend, Montagu was a avid gambler who often spent hours at the card table. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">One day, he was so engrossed in his game that he did not want to take the time to sit down for a proper meal. So, he asked his servant to bring him some beef between two slices of bread. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">And thus, the sandwich was born! Since then, the sandwich has undergone many variations, but it remains a popular and convenient food enjoyed by people all over the world.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How many calories in a cheese sandwich?</h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="642" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Cheese-Sandwich-With-Tomato-Lettuce-Grey-Background-1024x642.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-12017" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Cheese-Sandwich-With-Tomato-Lettuce-Grey-Background-1024x642.jpg 1024w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Cheese-Sandwich-With-Tomato-Lettuce-Grey-Background-300x188.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Cheese-Sandwich-With-Tomato-Lettuce-Grey-Background-768x481.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/Cheese-Sandwich-With-Tomato-Lettuce-Grey-Background.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p style="font-size:16px">A cheese sandwich is not the most nutritious meal you can eat, but it does have some redeeming features. For one thing, it&#8217;s relatively low in calories. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, a cheese sandwich made with two slices of bread and one ounce of cheese has about 250 calories. That&#8217;s not exactly a diet food, but it&#8217;s not bad either. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">And if you&#8217;re looking for a quick snack, a cheese sandwich can be a fairly filling option. So if you&#8217;re looking for something to tide you over until dinner, a cheese sandwich might not be the worst idea. Just don&#8217;t make it your only meal of the day.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What is a bmt sandwich?</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">The bmt sandwich is a thing of legend. Some say it was created by a guy named bmt, others say it stands for bacon, mushroom, and tomato. Regardless of its origins, the bmt is a delicious sandwich that is perfect for any occasion. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">It&#8217;s simple to make, and there are endless variations to try. Whether you&#8217;re a fan of classic bmt sandwiches or you like to experiment with new ingredients, this sandwich is sure to satisfy.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What time is lunch in Amsterdam?</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">Lunch time in Amsterdam is typically around noon. However, this can vary depending on the person&#8217;s schedule and the type of lunch that they are having. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">For example, if someone is working a late shift, they may not have lunch until 2pm or later. On the other hand, if someone is taking a leisurely lunch break, they may start as early as 11am. </p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1 | Sichuan</strong></h3>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1000" height="667" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/spicy-food-restaurants-in-amsterdam.jpg" alt="si chuan amsterdam" class="wp-image-3362" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/spicy-food-restaurants-in-amsterdam.jpg 1000w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/spicy-food-restaurants-in-amsterdam-300x200.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/spicy-food-restaurants-in-amsterdam-768x512.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/spicy-food-restaurants-in-amsterdam-200x133.jpg 200w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/04/spicy-food-restaurants-in-amsterdam-400x267.jpg 400w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px" /><figcaption class="wp-element-caption"><em>Chinese restaurant Si-Chuan in the <a href="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/red-light-district-amsterdam/">Red Light District</a>.</em></figcaption></figure>

<p style="font-size:16px">This is perhaps the most spicy food restaurant in town. At restaurant Sichuan they take spicy cooking very seriously. The name of the restaurant says enough; Sichuan is a province in China known for its extremely spicy cuisine. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">All the dishes on the menu are spicy, but the chungking chili chicken is way beyond it. The chicken is prepared in a large wok and overloaded with chili and Qiubei pepper. When you bite through the peppercorns, a numb feeling occurs in your mouth, as if you were at the dentist&#8217;s. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">This narcotic feeling in combination with the heat of the chili is also called ma la, or narcotic hot. Restaurant Sichuan is located in the <a href="https://toursinamsterdam.com/red-light-district-amsterdam/">Red Light District</a> and one of the many spicy food restaurants of Amsterdam Chinatown.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">This is definitely one of the best spicy food restaurants in Amsterdam! Thai cuisine is known for being spicy, and restaurant Kinnaree is no exception to that rule. The menu is full of delicious traditional hot Thai dishes. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Restaurant Nyonya is all about the red pepper. It&#8217;s present in the logo, on a long pendulum throughout the restaurant and in the many spicy traditional Malaysian dishes that are on the menu. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">What makes Thai food spicy?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">There are a few factors that contribute to the heat in Thai food. First, many Thai dishes use fresh chili peppers, which are notoriously spicy. Additionally, Thai cuisine often incorporates a variety of spices, including ginger, garlic, and peppercorns, which can all add to the heat of a dish. Finally, certain Thai sauces and pastes, such as nam prik pao and Sriracha, are particularly spicy and can turn even the mildest dish into a fiery culinary experience.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">So if you&#8217;re looking for a spicy meal, Thai food is a great option. Just be sure to ask your server how spicy the dish is before you dive in &#8211; otherwise, you may end up in for a very spicy surprise.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">What is Malaysian food?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">Malaysian food is both delicious and diverse, blending influences from China, India, and Indonesia. Malaysian cuisine often features noodles, rice, and spices, as well as meats like chicken, beef, and fish. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">One of the most popular Malaysian dishes is nasi lemak, a coconut milk-infused rice dish that is usually served with a variety of side dishes like fried chicken, eggs, vegetables, and shrimp paste. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="484" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/satay-1024x484.jpg" alt="satay" class="wp-image-11506" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/satay-1024x484.jpg 1024w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/satay-300x142.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/satay-768x363.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/satay.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p style="font-size:16px">Other classic Malaysian dishes include satay (skewered meats grilled over an open flame), rendang (a spicy coconut milk-based curry), and laksa (a noodle soup made with coconut milk and chili peppers). Whether you&#8217;re in the mood for something sweet or savory, Malaysian food is sure to satisfy.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">The icing on the cake is the Nyonya bami soup, with shrimps, bean sprouts and mushrooms. The bright red color of the soup will scare many, but the real red pepper lover has hit the jackpot.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">Address </h4>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Spicy Food Benefits</h3>

<p style="font-size:16px">If you&#8217;re a fan of spicy food, you&#8217;re in luck. Not only is spicy food delicious, but it also comes with a host of health benefits. </p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Spicy food can help to boost your metabolism and burn more calories. </li>

<li>It can help to fight inflammation and improve your circulation. </li>

<li>Spicy food has also been linked to better cognitive function and a lower risk of dementia. </li>
</ul>

<p style="font-size:16px">So next time you&#8217;re in the mood for something spicy, don&#8217;t hesitate to indulge. Your body will thank you for it.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>How do Chinese restaurants make dishes more spicy?</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="852" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Chinese-Food-Sticks-1024x852.jpg" alt="Chinese food" class="wp-image-11488" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Chinese-Food-Sticks-1024x852.jpg 1024w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Chinese-Food-Sticks-300x250.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Chinese-Food-Sticks-768x639.jpg 768w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2022/07/Chinese-Food-Sticks.jpg 1200w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<p style="font-size:16px">There are a few different ways that Chinese restaurants can make their dishes more spicy. One way is to add more chili peppers to the dish. This will give it an immediate spicy boost. Another way is to add Sichuan peppercorns, which have a numbing effect as well as a spicy flavor. Finally, they could add ginger or garlic, both of which have a strong flavor that can add some spice to a dish. Of course, every restaurant is different, so it&#8217;s always best to ask how spicy a dish is before ordering it. That way you can get exactly the level of spice you&#8217;re looking for.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">How to stop burning poop after eating spicy food?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">Burning poop can be a real pain, literally. It can happen after eating spicy food or due to certain medical conditions. There are a few things you can do to ease the burning sensations. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Over-the-counter medications like Pepto-Bismol, Kaopectate, and Imodium can help to relieve burning poop. Probiotics may also be helpful in reducing burning sensations. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">You can also try changing your diet by avoiding spicy foods and eating more high-fiber foods. If burning poop is a persistent problem, it&#8217;s best to see a doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">When can i eat spicy food after wisdom teeth removal?</h4>

<p style="font-size:16px">Most people will be able to eat spicy food soon after wisdom teeth removal, but it is important to wait until the area is healed. </p>

<p style="font-size:16px">Stitches are usually removed within a week, and once they are out, you can slowly start to introduce spice back into your diet. It is important to listen to your body, and if you experience any pain or discomfort, stop eating spicy food and speak to your dentist.</p>

<p style="font-size:16px">In most cases, however, wisdom teeth removal will not affect your ability to enjoy spicy dishes. So go ahead and add some extra heat to your next meal. Your wisdom teeth will thank you.</p>

<p>All by herself, owner Léonie Jeursen started her business Baksels in 2013: a mecca of <strong>home-made cakes</strong> and <strong>cookies</strong>. Business went so well that a year ago it was time for expansion. And it worked, just around the corner on Kinkerstraat. Now there are three employees in the spacious store every day and they’re baking like crazy. There are rumors that <strong>red velvet is the best cake in Amsterdam</strong>, so go and taste it yourself.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Best Pie In Amsterdam With A Nordic Twist At Selma&#8217;s </strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><a href="https://www.facebook.com/selmasfood/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/best-pie-in-amsterdam-selmas-nordic-bakery-cafe.jpg" alt="best pies near me" class="wp-image-2293" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/best-pie-in-amsterdam-selmas-nordic-bakery-cafe.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/best-pie-in-amsterdam-selmas-nordic-bakery-cafe-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/best-pie-in-amsterdam-selmas-nordic-bakery-cafe-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></a></figure>

<p>In Swedish culture, fika stands for a moment of rest, which happens there daily in the form of a coffee break with some goodies. If you want to experience this yourself, you have come to the right place at Selma’s. The bestsellers of the luncheon are the cinnamon bullar: Swedish cinnamon buns full of spices and organic ingredients. They are freshly baked daily, so be quick, because they run out fast.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Best Pie in Amsterdam: Gartine</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><a href="https://www.gartine.nl" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/gartine-breakfast-lunch-patissery.jpg" alt="must eat in amsterdam" class="wp-image-2294" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/gartine-breakfast-lunch-patissery.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/gartine-breakfast-lunch-patissery-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/gartine-breakfast-lunch-patissery-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></a></figure>

<p>An oasis of tranquility in the busy city center: at Gartine you can not only have a good breakfast and lunch, but you will also enjoy yourself as a sweet tooth. Go for a high tea or order the cake per point. The ingredients come directly from the vegetable garden, and let&#8217;s face it: doesn’t such a fluffy chocolate cake with rosemary sound even better?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Croissants in Amsterdam: The Ultimate Guide</h2>

<p>Everybody loves croissants! However, quality can differ a lot depending on where you buy them. We&#8217;ve made a top 5 selection of the best croissants in Amsterdam. </p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>French Croissant Shop Amsterdam South</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="948" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-le-fournil-de-sébastien.jpg" alt="Best croissants in Amsterdam Le Fournil de Sébastien
" class="wp-image-1129" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-le-fournil-de-sébastien.jpg 948w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-le-fournil-de-sébastien-300x119.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-le-fournil-de-sébastien-768x304.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 948px) 100vw, 948px" /></figure>

<p>Le Fournil de Sébastien on Olympiaplein (Olympia Square) has become a household name for many Amsterdam residents. According to many, this French baker&#8217;s croissants are the very best in Amsterdam, and with good reason. Everything is made fresh in the middle of the night, including the perfectly layered croissants (€ 1.30). You can also go here to get a real French baguette or a variety of pastries.</p>

<p><em>Address: Le Fournil de Sébastien, Olympiaplein 119</em>.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Best Croissants In Amsterdam In City Centre</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-gebroeders-niemeijer.jpg" alt="Best croissants in Amsterdam Gebroeders Niemeijer
" class="wp-image-1130" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-gebroeders-niemeijer.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-gebroeders-niemeijer-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-gebroeders-niemeijer-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></figure>

<p>In the over ten years that Gebroeders Niemeijer have existed, they&#8217;ve become known as one of the better bakeries in the city. Here you can pick up your freshly baked croissant (€ 1.60), but it is even more fun to eat your buttery snack while sitting overlooking the kitchen. For the hungry breakfast there is also an option to order a full French breakfast. Croissant included of course.</p>

<p><em>Address:</em> <em>Niemeijer brothers, Nieuwendijk 35</em>.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Old Croissant Shop Amsterdam Albert Cuyp Market</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-simon-meijssen.jpeg" alt="Best croissants in Amsterdam Simon Meijssen" class="wp-image-1131" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-simon-meijssen.jpeg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-simon-meijssen-300x118.jpeg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-simon-meijssen-768x303.jpeg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></figure>

<p>With seven locations, the Amsterdam baker Simon Meijssen is doing very well. That&#8217;s also allowed with such a track record: the bread shop on the Albert Cuyp has been around for more than a hundred years. In addition to the famous Brood van Meijssen, fresh, crispy croissants (€ 1.50) are also sold. Also nice: the branch on the Zuidas delivers, for when you are too busy to walk to the bakery during your break.</p>

<p><em>Address:</em> <em>Simon Meijssen, Albert Cuypstraat 78</em>.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Best Croissants In Amsterdam: Whole Grain</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="950" height="375" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-hartog.jpg" alt="Best croissants in Amsterdam Hartog" class="wp-image-1132" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-hartog.jpg 950w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-hartog-300x118.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-hartog-768x303.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 950px) 100vw, 950px" /></figure>

<p>Like Simon Meijssen, Hartog has been a household name in Amsterdam for years. This bakery, which has been around since 1896, grinds its own wholemeal flour. The whole grain is in the flour, making it very fiber-rich. All the bread from this old-fashioned bakery shop is baked with it, including the croissants (€ 1.35). This produces coarse, dark croissants. Different from the other four, but certainly not less tasty.</p>

<p><em>Address:</em> <em>Hartog&#8217;s Volkoren, Wibautstraat 77</em>.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Amsterdam&#8217;s Baking Dynasty in North</strong></h4>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="952" height="289" src="https://toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-de-bakkerszonen.jpg" alt="Best croissants in Amsterdam de Bakkerzonen" class="wp-image-1133" srcset="https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-de-bakkerszonen.jpg 952w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-de-bakkerszonen-300x91.jpg 300w, https://www.toursinamsterdam.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/06/best-croissants-in-Amsterdam-de-bakkerszonen-768x233.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 952px) 100vw, 952px" /></figure>

<p>Bakery De Bakkerszonen is owned by Johan Hartog and Martijn Meijer. The two sons of well-known Amsterdam baker families joined forces to open their very own bakery. In the business in Amsterdam North you can buy all kinds of delicacies. From pastries and bread to oliebollen (all year round!) And of course some of the best Croissant In Amsterdam (€ 1.60). If you feel like something sweet but also want a delicious butter roll, you can order a cream croissant.</p>

<p><em>Address:</em> <em>De Bakkerszonen, Mosveld 113</em>.</p>
