The Museum of Illusions Amsterdam, set inside a former neo-Gothic church on the Keizersgracht, packs more than 60 mind-bending optical illusions into one of the canal belt’s most photogenic spaces. It is hands-on, family-friendly and endlessly Instagrammable — here is what is inside, what tickets cost, how long you need, and whether it is worth it.

What is the Museum of Illusions Amsterdam?
The Museum of Illusions Amsterdam is part of the global Museum of Illusions chain, and it opened in the summer of 2025 inside the former New Walloon Church (Nieuwe Waalse Kerk) on Keizersgracht — a striking neo-Gothic setting that is a talking point in its own right. Across around 650 m² you will find more than 60 interactive exhibits that play tricks on your eyes and brain.
Highlights include the dizzying Vortex Tunnel, the mirrored Infinity Room, the perspective-bending Ames Room, a clone table that lets you appear several times in one photo, holograms, tilted rooms and a wall of brain-teasers and puzzles. It is very much a hands-on, photo-first experience — the staff will happily show you where to stand to get the best trick shots — and it is entirely self-guided, so you can take your time.
Museum of Illusions vs Amsterdam Illusions — don’t mix them up
One quick clarification, because the names are similar. The Museum of Illusions on Keizersgracht (the modern chain museum described here) is a different venue from the older “Amsterdam Illusions” 3D-painting selfie spot elsewhere in the centre. If you are after the big, church-set, 60-plus-exhibit museum, Keizersgracht 676 is the address you want.
Where is it and how do you get there?
The museum is at Keizersgracht 676, in the heart of the canal belt near Vijzelstraat, a short walk from Rembrandtplein and the Flower Market. The nearest metro stop is Vijzelgracht (line 52), about a seven-minute walk away, and several trams pass close by. See our map of Amsterdam to slot it into your route.
Tickets, hours and how long you need
- Opening hours: daily 10:00 to 18:00, but closed on Tuesdays (except during Dutch school holidays) — worth noting so you don’t turn up on the one closed day.
- Tickets (verify current): around €19.50 for adults, €16.50 for children aged 5–18, and free for under-5s, with a family ticket (two adults and two children) at about €59.50. Entry is by timed slot and the museum is cashless (card only).
- How long: plan for roughly one to one-and-a-half hours.
- Booking: the Museum of Illusions Amsterdam is not on Tiqets; you can book directly or through GetYourGuide (below).
Is the Museum of Illusions worth it?
For the right visitor, yes. Early reviews since it opened have been largely positive, and it is one of the more genuinely fun, all-ages attractions in the centre — a great rainy-day option and a hit with children. The interactive exhibits, the helpful staff and the atmospheric church setting are the things people rave about most.
The honest caveats: it is fairly small and quick, so at around €19.50 a head it can feel pricey per hour, and it is best enjoyed in a group of three or more — several illusions and photos work better with two people in the shot while a third takes the picture. Go in expecting a playful hour of photos and brain-teasers rather than a deep, lengthy museum, and it delivers. It is a strong pick for families, couples and anyone who loves a clever photo.
Combine it with nearby sights
Its central canal-belt location makes it easy to pair with the rest of a day out. The Flower Market, Muntplein and the buzz of Rembrandtplein are all within a short walk, and the museums of the wider centre are close too.
