Een inventaris uit de Nederlandse Gouden Eeuw - de 17e eeuw - werd gebruikt om het huis zorgvuldig in te richten met meubels, voorwerpen en kunst uit Rembrandts tijd om het Museum Het Rembrandthuis te creëren.
Bezoek het atelier, het woongedeelte, de oude keuken van Rembrandt van Rijn en waan je in de 17e eeuw. Het Rembrandthuis beschrijft het verhaal van Rembrandt de man, schilder, leraar, verzamelaar, inspirator, ondernemer en inwoner van Amsterdam. De collectie kunstwerken uit de Gouden Eeuw geeft een indruk van de wereld en omgeving van Rembrandt van Rijn.
Dit museum bezit ook een vrijwel volledige collectie etsen van Rembrandt, waarvan regelmatig een selectie wordt tentoongesteld.
In het jaar 1637 werd een jonge albino-olifant vanuit Sri Lanka (het voormalige Ceylon) naar de hoofdstad van Holland gebracht en was het onderwerp van een prachtige potloodtekening van Rembrandt. Hij was erdoor gebiologeerd. Het dier verscheen zelfs op een van Rembrandts etsen "Adam en Eva in het Paradijs". Kijk of je het binnen kunt vinden. Zo niet, dan kunt u ook naar de Nieuwe Batavierstraat 2. Hier vindt u een gevelsteen ter ere van deze beroemde olifant. Het is maar 4 minuten lopen.
De demonstraties van het Rembrandthuis laten dagelijks zien hoe in de zeventiende eeuw etsen werden gedrukt. De demonstraties zijn geheel gratis en worden gegeven in de voormalige grafische werkplaats van Rembrandt. Er zijn terugkerende tentoonstellingen met kunstwerken van tijdgenoten en voorgangers van Rembrandt van Rijn. Ook hedendaagse kunst wordt getoond in de moderne vleugel van Museum het Rembrandthuis.
